“Separated United Forms,” a public art installation commissioned by the City of Pasadena and created in collaboration with Art Center College of Design and the Norton Simon Museum, is in the process of being installed at the Huntington Pavilion, an outpatient facility developed by Pacific Medical Buildings on the grounds of Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, CA.

For the commissioned piece, I was granted access to the Norton Simon Museum’s vast collection and appropriated Henry Moore’s “Reclining Form” (1966). I scanned the original small, two-piece, marble sculpture using digital imaging technology made available by Art Center College of Design.

The forms were digitally manipulated by separating, scaling, rotating, superimposing and doubling. The result is “Separated United Forms,” a public sculpture project that encompasses two large-scale cast bronze sculptures, each measuring over 7.5’ x 12’ positioned on a 20’ x 40’ concrete platform that will be illuminated at night with eight in-ground luminaries.
